Updated: 8:34 AM- A would-be robber more than met his match at a Salt Lake City Sinclair gas station.

The 20-year-old suspect approached the counter with a soft drink and handed the clerk a note claiming he had a gun around 6 p.m., police said. The clerk did not see a gun, and when the suspect reached across the counter to grab money from the cash register, the clerk stopped him.

A customer who saw the incident, which occurred at the Sinclair on 873 E. South Temple, helped the clerk detain the suspect until police arrived.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
