The Wire - The Complete Fifth Season

Grade: A-

Over five years, the brilliant, epic HBO crime drama, "The Wire," has smartly captured the urban decay of Baltimore. In the newest DVD season release, "The Wire - The Complete Fifth Season," the target is the declining newspaper industry and a mainstream media failing to report on important news of a city in peril.

Det. Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West) begins fabricating homeless murders to get more resources. Meanwhile, the Balitimore Sun faces its own cutbacks, leaving one overly-ambitious reporter to make up news stories.

The drama in the final season is graced with intelligence and, rare in television, carefully scripted irony, to cap one of the best dramas to ever shine on living room screens.
