Suspended Utah receiver Marquis Wilson will return to the Utes this season, coach Kyle Whittingham said Wednesday.

Though his scholarship has been pulled, Wilson obtained walk-on status and hopes to work his way back into the lineup in 2009. He will pay his own way for schooling and will redshirt this fall.

"He's got to put in one year of solid work, and no issues, and so forth, and he'll be welcomed back in [next season] if he makes it through the year," Whittingham said.

Wilson was suspended for spring practice, then reinstated for summer workouts. Soon after, Whittingham said he would not be allowed to play with the Utes in 2008.

Before last season, Wilson was suspended for spring practice but went on to make 18 catches for 285 yards and three touchdowns in 2007.

Whittingham said Wilson is fully committed to working his way back into the lineup.
