In a further attempt to rehabilitate Pioneer Park, Mayor Ralph Becker's office and the Salt Lake City Film Center are staging outdoor movie screenings every Friday in August.
Tonight, the series opens with Julie Taymor's Beatles-filled musical "Across the Universe." The screening at Pioneer Park (300 W. 300 South) starts at dusk, around 9 p.m. Community booths will open at 8 p.m.
Also on the schedule: Hayao Miyazaki's animated gem "Spirited Away" on Aug. 8; the Italian romance "Bread and Tulips" on Aug. 15; the Jane Austen-in-Bollywood musical "Bride and Prejudice" on Aug. 22; and the Brazilian coming-of-age drama "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" on Aug. 29.
