Row-For-The-Cure

Ovarian Cancer
Climb4Life
The Women's Cancer Foundation is now registering for the seventh annual Ovarian Cancer Climb4Life on Sept. 18 to 21. Hosted by climbing company Black Diamond, 85 percent of money raised will go to support local programs. The registration fee is $75 and the fundraising minimum is $125. Bowhunting courses
The Beehive Wasatch Bowhunters' 45th annual Treasure Mountain Shoot will be August 1-3 off of I-80 in Parleys Canyon. The shoot is open to the public and includes five different courses. New geological map
The Utah Geological Survey has released a new geologic map covering areas of Kane and Washington counties in Utah, and Coconino and Mohave counties in Arizona. The map covers an area of 1,900 square miles and includes parts of Zion, Bryce Canyon and one-third of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The map and its data will be used by federal, state and county agencies as well as geologists, developers and for recreation purposes. The Great Salt Lake Audubon is holding its monthly bird survey in the Mountain Dell Recreation Area in Parleys Canyon on Aug. 6 at 7 a.m. Meet in the parking lot west of the REI on 3285 E. 3300 South in East Millcreek by 7 a.m. Call Jack at 801-255-7989 or Sylvia at 801-532-3486 if you plan to attend.
On Aug. 9 at 8 a.m. The Great Salt Lake Audubon is leading a birding trip in Tabiona. Meet in the corner of the Sugar House ShopKo parking lot by 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided, call Jack at 801-255-7989 or Sylvia at 801-532-3486 to reserve a spot on the trip.
Beginning birders are welcome and contributions for gas money are appreciated, $3 per person or $5 for trips over 40 miles.

On Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. there will be a backpacking skills class for youth. The class will cover everything from gear essentials, such as backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and clothing, ways to pack your bag and will highlight the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
On Aug. 5 at 7 p.m., Joel Addams will host a class on color and composition in travel photography. The lecture is for beginning and intermediate photographers who shoot mainly in digital. A discussion on basic Photoshop techniques such as control levels, curves, saturation and hue will follow.
Jayah Faye Paley, creator of the award-winning DVD, "Poles for Hiking, Trekking & Walking," will present a class on the benefits of using poles to hike to help prevent injuries. The class will be Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.
The Sandy REI store, 230 W. 10600 South, is holding a bike maintenance class for women on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. REI cycling specialist Renee Evans will demonstrate basic techniques such as checking tire pressure, changing a flat tire and checking gears and brakes.
