The Utah stores that will close are located at 3685 S. Harrison Blvd., in Ogden; 1868 W. 12600 South in Riverton; 7835 S. Highland Drive in Cottonwood Heights and 1642 S. 2000 West in Syracuse. The company did not include specific closure dates for those locations.
Earlier this month, in a sign the coffee shop operator is feeling the pain from the faltering U.S. economy, Starbucks announced the plan to close the 600 stores, up dramatically from its previous announcement of 100 stores. But it did not reveal the stores' locations.
The company provided a complete list Thursday at http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/ pressdesc.asp?id=882.
Starbucks said in an earlier statement that nearly three-quarters of the stores to be closed were opened after the start of 2006. The locations set to close include ones that "were not profitable and not projected to provide acceptable returns in the foreseeable future," it said.
Of the 600 stores that will close, the company has provided closing dates for 50 stores that will close by the end of this month - none of which is in Utah.
Many states are losing large numbers of locations. California will lose 88 stores, two each in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and 10 in San Diego. Florida will lose 59 stores, including three each in Tampa and Palm Beach Gardens. Louisiana will lose 13 stores, nine in Baton Rouge.
The move to close the stores is a turnabout from Starbucks' aggressive expansion plans.
The company curtailed those plans as it saw traffic and its profits decline recently as the faltering economy led some consumers to question their spending on pricey coffee.
