Ahora Utah, a Spanish-language weekly newspaper aimed at Latino readers and others, is being launched in northern Utah.

The first edition of the companion publication of The Salt Lake Tribune contains 12 pages of news, sports, entertainment, advertisements and classified ads. Its editors and reporters will focus on issues important to the Latino community.

Two Spanish-language news services will provide information and commentary from across the United States and the world, particularly Mexico, Central America and Latin America.

The paper is being distributed free on Thursdays and Fridays at more than 250 sites along the Wasatch Front, from Provo to Ogden and in Park City and Heber City. It will also be handed out at Catholic churches after Masses on Saturdays and Sundays.

"It's reaching an audience that The Tribune hasn't reached before because it's in English. And it's an audience that is growing," Tribune Deputy Editor Tim Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick said many U.S. papers are developing specialty products to find new readers and new sources of revenue.
