Liquor stores: No checks from credit card companies

State liquor stores are no longer accepting checks issued by credit card companies, because of problems with fraud. Customers still may buy wine, spirits and heavy beer with personal checks, bank cards and, of course, cash.

A memo has been sent to all state liquor stores and package agencies at resorts and small towns, said Sharon Mackay, spokeswoman for the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The memo said checks issued by all credit card companies will not be accepted.

Disaster donations

Chamber helping collect items for Peru quake victims

The Latin American Chamber of Commerce will be helping collect donations for victims of the earthquake in Peru. Items that are needed include warm clothing, jackets, blankets and tents. In addition, an account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank called "Peru Relief Effort."

'Grow Your Business'

Snow sports group to conduct fall workshop in SLC

Salt Lake City has been added to the list of cities in which the SnowSports Industries of America will conduct fall educational workshops to help local companies "Know Your Customers and Grow Your Business."

The daylong Salt Lake City workshop will be Oct. 3 at the Sheraton City Centre, the hotel where Ski Utah, marketing arm of the state's ski industry, has its headquarters.
