Silver Eagle Refining Inc. said its vacuum distillation unit at its crude oil refinery in the Salt Lake City area likely will be back in operation by late Friday or early Saturday after a fire on Wednesday morning.
The Woods Cross refinery's output of 8,000 to 9,000 barrels of oil per day was never reduced because of the fire, said Kerry Carroll, refinery manager.
Silver Eagle's four-man crew immediately cut off the pipeline that feeds the distillation unit after it caught fire. The contents of the unit burned out within an hour, Carroll said. No one was injured by the fire.
"We're still doing our investigation of the fire," he said. "There were no ruptured lines that we found. There were some leaking gaskets but we don't know if they were the cause of the fire or caused by the fire."
At peak capacity the refinery can process about 10,250 barrels of oil a day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Web site.
Silver Eagle also operates a refinery in Evanston, Wyoming.
