Two films being shot in Utah will receive $352,000 in post-production rebates from the state's Motion Picture Incentive Fund.
The Utah Board of Business Development recently approved up to $200,000 for "Wieners," a road-trip comedy about three friends on a cross-country search for themselves in a hot-dog mobile, and up to $152,000 for "American Pastime," a period piece about a baseball team that formed in the Japanese internment camp in Topaz during WWII.
The pair, which will receive rebates after the films have wrapped up production in fiscal year 2007, join three other productions that received credits from the incentive fund in April. The five films are expected to generate $12.5 million in revenue for the state.
Wieners is produced by Gregory Smith, who also oversaw the newly canceled television series "Everwood." Besides "Wieners" and "American Pastime," other feature films being shot in Utah this summer include "Dark Matter," starring Meryl Streep and Val Kilmer, "Halloweentown 4," "Ice Spiders" and "The Last Sin Eater," a historical movie about a family in the 1850s directed by Michael Landon Jr.
