Two consumer advocates filed an appeal with the Utah Supreme Court on Monday, asking that it review an order that gave Questar Gas permission to raise rates up the $19 million over the next three years. Roger Ball and Claire Geddes, along with several dozen other utility customers, are asking for a review of a Public Service Commission order that was handed down in January. The gas company sought the rate increase to help it pay for the cost of processing natural gas so it can burn safely in the appliances in Utah homes. The dispute over who should pay to process the gas - the utility or its customers - goes back more than a decade. In addition, Ball and Geddes filed a separate appeal asking the high court to review the PSC order that denied them the opportunity to intervene and participate in the case prior to the PSC handing down its final order that granted the rate increase.
