Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has nominated Mark S. Kouris of Salt Lake City to serve as a judge in 3rd District Court.

Kouris, whose nomination must be confirmed by the Utah Senate, would replace retiring Judge Pat Brian.

"Mark has the right combination of qualities that will make him a great judge," Huntsman said. "He is smart, dedicated, capable and experienced in the practice of law."

Kouris is an assistant federal defender at the Utah Federal Defender's Office in Salt Lake City. Previously, Kouris was a deputy Salt Lake County district attorney. He is a graduate of the University of Utah College of Law.
