Unico Inc. of Arizona says its wholly owned subsidiary, Deer Trail Mining Co., has received tentative approval from Utah's Division of Oil, Gas and Mining for large-scale mining of the Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale.

Fonix Corp.'s speech division reports significant inroads in proving speech interfaces to the video-game industry. Within the next nine months, the Draper company anticipates having more than 20 titles in the market, many of them shipping on the personal computer platform as well as Xbox and PlayStation2.

Nutrition Business Journal, a monthly trade publication for the natural foods and nutritional supplements industry, has recognized two Utah companies with business achievement awards. Pharmanex, a subsidiary of NuSkin, increased sales by 20 percent in four consecutive quarters, earning the Provo-based company a "gold" award for growth in the large company category. The Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner, designed to measure antioxidant levels in the skin, won a Product Merit Award. The journal also recognized Nature's Sunshine of Spanish Fork as one of the industry's top stock performers. The supplements and skin-care products maker increased its share price 142 percent in 2004.

Reverse Mortgage of America on Monday opened offices serving Salt Lake City and Ogden. Jack Higley, serving the Salt Lake area, and Tom Turner of Ogden will offer senior homeowners age 62 and older a means to tap the equity in their home to receive tax-free payments.
