In a move aimed at bolstering its ZENworks system management suite, Novell Inc. says it plans to buy Tally Systems Corp. No terms of the acquisition of Lebanon, N.H.-based Tally were released Wednesday by Novell, a networking and Linux development company that last year moved its headquarters from Provo to Waltham, Mass. Novell did say it expects to close the deal by mid-April, with customers soon after being able to take advantage of Tally's integrated set of inventory, license management, software usage and trend analysis tools. "The regulatory compliance necessary in today's business environment demands accurate tracking and reporting of IT assets," said Jack Messman, Novell's chairman and chief executive. "Joining Tally Systems' asset management with Novell's change and configuration management gives companies a way to ensure compliance, reduce software costs and prepare for software audits." Novell shares rose 8 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $5.52 at closing Wednesday on the Nasdaq Stock Market. - Bob Mims
