Utah's first Hyatt Place Hotel opened Wednesday at The Gateway shopping center in Salt Lake City.

Developed by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and The Boyer Co., the hotel features 128 guest rooms and 1,000 square feet of meeting space. It will be managed by LodgeWorks, L.P., a privately held hotel development and management company based in Wichita, Kan.

"In creating Hyatt Place, we extensively researched the evolving needs of contemporary travelers to identify the right combination of style, service and amenities," said Alison Kal, vice president of marketing for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. She noted the hotel's 42-inch high definition televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi access and continental breakfast, eight-foot sectional sofa-sleepers, a fitness center, in-room refrigerators and 24-hour food service.

The hotel's general manager is Minda Zoloth, a 13-year hospitality industry veteran. She will oversee a staff of 40, including sales director Heidy Zerr, who has eight years of experience in the Salt Lake City market.

There are about 130 Hyatt Place hotels in the United States. The brand's parent company, Global Hyatt Corp., has 380 hotels and resorts in 45 countries operating under the brands Hyatt, Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Recency, Hyatt Place and Hyatt Summerfield Suites .
