U. president will join SkyWest board

Michael Young, president of the University of Utah, will become a director of regional airline SkyWest Inc. July 1.

Young will replace BYU accounting professor W. Steve Albrecht who will resign, effective June 30.

Before coming to the university, Young was dean of the George Washington University Law School from 1998 to 2004.

Before that, Young was a professor of Japanese law and legal institutions, and director of Japanese Legal Studies and the Center for Korean Legal Studies at Columbia University from 1978 to 1998.

Young served as ambassador for trade and environmental affairs and deputy undersecretary of state for economic affairs in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1973 and Harvard Law School in 1976.

St. George-based SkyWest is the parent company of SkyWest Airlines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
