The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control says state liquor sales are up by 6.15 percent since July, compared with the same period last year.
DABC spokeswoman Sharon Mackay says that state revenues from liquor sales are increasing, but not by as much as they were last year, when sales increased by 13 percent. She says the increase is largely due to a growing population and growth in tourism.
The state also is the least Mormon since its founding. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints counts 60.4 percent of state residents as members, and tells them not to drink alcohol.
