The Mountain West Conference head coaches voted Utah State freshman point guard Koby McEwen the conference's freshman of the year. The Mountain West announced its all-conference and end of season awards on Tuesday.

Aggies senior forward Jalen Moore also earned a spot on the All-Mountain West Second Team, while McEwen garnered honorable mention all-conference honors.

McEwen, a native of Toronto, Canada, averaged 15.4 points 3.0 and assists per game, while making 45.2 percent of his 3-pointers during conference play. He'd been unanimously voted freshman of the year by members of the media who cover the Mountain West over the weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound McEwen led all Mountain West freshmen in scoring. He also ranked 12th overall in the conference in scoring, eighth in assist and third in 3-point shooting percentage (42.5 percent) during Mountain West play.

A graduate of Wasatch Academy, McEwen has started 28 of 29 games this season. Despite his success this season, McEwen acknowledges he has room for growth in terms of being able to take control of the game.

"I've definitely got to get better at running the team," McEwen said on Saturday. "I've got to get comfortable handling pressure. I've got to get comfortable telling guys where to go and knowing where every guy has got to be and when they've got to be there. You know, I've just got to get comfortable being a leader at this level.

"Obviously it being my first time, I'm still learning. I'm eventually going to get it. I'm going to keep getting better every single day. Hopefully, one day I'm going to master it."

Moore, the Aggies 6-foot-9 small forward, ranked among the top 10 in scoring (seventh, 16.5 ppg), field goal percentage (ninth, 44.7 percent), free throw percentage (seventh, 81.5 percent), 3-point shooting percentage (second, 42.6 percent) and 3-pointers per game (seventh, 2.2) in Mountain West games.

Moore, who leads the Aggies in scoring and rebounding, had been named to the all-conference second team in 2014-15 and the third team last season. He moved into ninth place on the Aggies all-time scoring list this season.

The Aggies begin Mountain West Tournament play on Wednesday at noon MST against San Jose State in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
