The Mountain West Conference will not seek to expand at the present time, the league's Board of Directors decided at its annual mid-year meetings Monday in Phoenix.

Over a two-day period, the conference school presidents and athletic directors discussed a variety of topics.

Regarding expansion, the Board considered the stability the current 12-member football configuration has brought to the conference and decided not to pursue any new members. The situation is fluid, however, and expansion could be an issue down the road.

Reports last week indicated that Texas-El Paso and Rice, both former WAC members, were both interested in joining the conference.

"The entire membership expressed great support for the continued development of the conference," commissioner Craig Thompson said in a statement. "There is genuine excitement about the growth which has transpired in the less than three years under the present alignment."

In other action, the Board of Directors studied various options regarding the site of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 men's and women's basketball tournaments. A final decision is expected to be announced within the coming days. Currently, the tournaments are played at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, which is UNLV's home court.

Also, the Board of Directors considered a transfer participation policy. A proposal will be drafted which "would limit participation of a transfer student-athlete who has been subject to official university or athletics department disciplinary action at any previous collegiate institution."
