Utah State special teams coordinator and running backs coach Dave Ungerer has been named a nominee for the 2015 Broyles Award, it has been announced by the Rotary Club of Little Rock.

Ungerer is one of 34 nominees for the award, which honors the top assistant in college football. It is named in honor of former Arkansas head coach Frank Broyles.

The five finalists for the Broyles Award will be announced on Nov. 30. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8, at the Marriott Hotel in Little Rock, Ark.

Under Ungerer, who is in his third season with the Aggies, Utah State ranks second in the Mountain West Conference and sixth nationally in kickoff returns (27.4). The Aggies are fourth in the conference and 50th in the nation in punt returns (9.2). Utah State has also blocked two extra points and two punts in 11 games.

Individually, Utah State junior Andrew Rodriguez returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown in a 12-9 win over Southern Utah. Senior Hunter Sharp returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in last week's 31-27 win over Nevada.

Utah State's ground game has also been effective. The Aggies have rushed for 1,813 yards and 19 touchdowns on 409 carries, going into Saturday's game against BYU. They average 164.8 rushing yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry.

In Utah State's victory against Nevada, junior Devante Mays rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 6.0 yards per carry and had runs of 35 and 32 yards, giving him a team-leading 10 explosives on the season.

With his two scores against Nevada, Mays has a team-leading nine touchdowns this season, which ranks fourth in the Mountain West and 49th nationally. He also leads Utah State in rushing with 788 yards on 134 attempts, or 5.9 yards per carry.
