The Utes will be adding a dangerous speedster to the 2017 class.

Javelin Guidry, a cornerback from Vista Murrieta High in California, committed to Utah football on Friday afternoon, picking the Utes over an offer from Texas.

"I have decided to open the next chapter of my life in manhood and play football for the University of Utah," https://twitter.com/JavKFootball28/status/825086256329535488";>he wrote on Twitter.

He also played defensive back, intercepting six passes and totaling 30 tackles.

Guidry's most notable numbers might be off the gridiron: Before moving to California for his senior year, Guidry was clocked with a 10.41-second 100-yard dash, http://www.flotrack.org/ranking/1429-2017-high-school-sprint-class-rankings#.WIu2XrYrLVo";>ranking as one of FloTrack's top 10 high school sprinters in his class.

While Utah became the favored spot for Guidry to land late in the recruiting cycle, that wasn't always the case. He had previously been committed to Houston before Tom Herman left to coach the Longhorns, the eventual runner-up for Guidry.

Utah has made the most of smaller corners in recent years, getting solid careers from graduated seniors Reggie Porter and Dominique Hatfield. Guidry will be among the pool of candidates to replace those standouts this fall. Indeed, some of Utah's best prospects in the upcoming class which will sign on Feb. 1 is in the secondary, including four-stars at safety and corner.

With 13 players in the class, Utah is looking to push for the final five to seven recruits who are expected to round them out. Among the visitors this weekend is five-star tackle Jay Tufele from Bingham, who would likely register as the top prospect in the class if he signs with Utah.
