Utah junior receiver Kenric Young was cited over the weekend by North Salt Lake Police after a fight broke out at a pool party.

First reported by KSL, The Tribune confirmed through police and court records that Young was cited for misdemeanor assault and another woman was cited for disorderly conduct after they were involved in a fight at a pool in a North Salt Lake apartment complex.

Assistant police chief Troy Johnson said officers were called to the complex, where they interviewed witnesses and reviewed cell phone footage before citing Young for the incident.

Young will have a mandatory appearance in North Salt Lake justice court. Court records indicate that a date has not yet been set.

Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham acknowledged in a statement released Monday by Utah athletics that he was aware of the incident and is gathering information.

"When we learned of the accusations against Kenric Young we contacted University of Utah police chief Dale Brophy and asked if he could obtain more information from the North Salt Lake police on what happened," he said. "We will cooperate fully with any police investigation and once we learn the facts, we will take any appropriate disciplinary measures."

Young, 20, played in nine games and made three catches for Utah last year. He's a native of Gainsville, Fla.
