If you, like us, spend a good portion of your day reading about football, you may have noticed a sudden prevalence of data cited from Pro Football Focus, a service which analyzes every snap of every game in both the pro and college ranks.

PFF College analysts detail advanced stats, as well as where players line up and what their roles are, and assign each player a grade — 0.0 being the average. You can learn more about the process at www.profootballfocus.com.

Anyway, this isn't an advertisement. We're not on the PFF College payroll. But they have very kindly agreed to give The Tribune a twice-weekly snapshot of important data that relates to the Utes, and here are some of PFF College's takeaways from Utah's 27-12 win over Oregon State:

• Junior right tackle J.J. Dielman received Utah's highest rating on the offensive line, at plus-3.5, and did not allow any pressures in pass protection while grading out well as a run blocker. Junior center Hiva Lutui (minus-2.1) struggled somewhat filling in for senior center Siaosi Aiono. Lutui was docked for two quarterback hurries and losing more battles than he won on rushing plays. Freshman left tackle Jackson Barton (minus-1.7) was also faulted for two of Oregon State's six quarterback hurries.

• Senior quarterback Travis Wilson also received a plus-3.5 score, above average as a passser and a rusher. He completed 5-of-6 passes against the blitz for 62 yards. Six of his completions came behind the line of scrimmage, where he was 6-for-6 — but he was no slouch downfield, either, going 8-for-11.

• Senior running back Devontae Booker (plus-2.8) forced five missed tackles on 25 attempts and leads the Pac-12 in cumulative rushing production grade, at plus-22.1.

• Utah rotated freely at wide receiver, with senior Kenneth Scott getting 57 snaps, followed by senior Bubba Poole (29), freshman Tyrone Smith (26), freshman Britain Covey (21), redshirt freshman Raelon Singleton (17), junior Delshawn McClellon (12) and two-way junior Cory Butler-Byrd (5).

• Junior defensive end Kylie Fitts (plus-2.1) had a quarterback hit, two hurries and a batted pass on his 27 snaps against the pass, while senior Jason Fanaika (plus-1.8) was credited with a team high five defensive stops (solo tackles resulting in an offensive failure).

• Junior cornerback Reginald Porter (plus-2.9) was targeted 10 times but only allowed four receptions for 14 yards, for a team-high pass coverage grade of plus-3.7. Butler-Byrd received 24 snaps on defense and did not have his best game, earning a minus-1.6 grade in coverage.

• Senior Gionni Paul led the linebackers with a plus-2.5 grade — especially stout against the run — while seniors Jared Norris (minus-0.8) and Jason Whittingham (minus-0.5) were in the red.
