This weekend on TV: Watch the ‘British Baking Show’ while it’s still ‘Great’

First Published      Last Updated Jun 16 2017 09:39 am

"The Great British Baking Show" returns to PBS (Friday, 8 and 9 p.m., Ch. 7) in its original form.

This is the most recent season, which aired last fall in the U.K. and features judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins. And only Hollywood will return for the next season, when the show switches channels in the U.K. (PBS has announced that it will air that season, too. Presumably — but not officially — next summer.)

Two episodes air this week — cakes in the first hour; biscuits in the second.

Friday on TV …

• "Cardinal" (Streaming, Hulu): Billy Campbell stars as a detective tracking a serial killer in this six-part, Canadian, mystery thriller. It's a great binge.

• Golf (9 a.m., FS1; 4 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13): Second round of the U.S. Open

• "The Originals" (7 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Vincent believes he can use The Hollow's own dark magic against itself; the King of New Orleans decides on a deadly backup plan.

• "20/20" (8 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): This two-hour look back at the Watergate scandal four-plus decades ago takes on a bit of urgency with Donald Trump in the White House.

• "Reign" (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Well, you had to know a show about Mary Queen of Scots wasn't going to have a happy ending, right? Well, this is the 78th and finale episode of this series, and things don't go well for Mary. Which you already knew.

• "Andi Mack" (9:30 p.m., Disney Channel): Andi, Buffy and Cyrus protest an unreasonable new dress code.

Saturday on TV …

• Golf (9 a.m., Fox/Ch. 13): Third round of the U.S. Open

• Major League Soccer (8 p.m., KMYU): Minnesota United FC at Real Salt Lake

• "T.J. Miller: Meticulously Ridiculous" (8 and 11 p.m., Smithsonian Channel): Miller performs standup comedy in his hometown of Denver.

• "TURN: Washington's Spies" (10 p.m., AMC): Benedict Arnold rounds up spies in New York; Abe plots to destroy British supplies. (Season premiere)

• "Doctor Who" (10 p.m., BBC America): Bill and the Doctor travel to ancient Aberdeenshire to inviestigate a very old mystery.
