The CW addds 2 fall shows — including a reboot of ‘Dynasty’

The CW is adding two new fall series — and neither one of them is based on a comic book, although one of those is coming at midseason.

Instead, the network is reaching into ABC's past for a re-imagined "Dynasty," and stepping out of its mold with a military show, "Valor."

From the producers of "The OC" and "Gossip Girl," the re-imagined "Dynasty" is closely patterned on the 1981-89 original — it's a prime-time soap about the mega-rich Carrington and Colby families. But in the 21st-century version, the young woman marrying the much older and fabulously wealthy man is Hispanic.

"They put a new twist on a show that existed 30 years ago," said CW president Mark Pedowitz.

(None of the original cast is currently slated to make an appearance on the reboot, although Pedowitz said he and the producers are "completely open" to that idea.)

"Valor" is outside the box of The CW, which has nothing like it on its schedule. Pedowitz said he's been trying to get a military-themed show on his schedule for six years — two other attempts didn't pan out;

"We will have a slightly different take, because we are The CW," he said.

By the way, the new comic-book series for midseason, "Black Lightning," is not part of the "Arrow"-verse, so there will be no crossover with "Arrow," "The Flash," "Supergirl" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow." There will, however, be another four-way crossover event for those shows.'

The CW canceled "Frequency," "No Tomorrow," "Reign" and "The Vampire Diaries."

Returning shows being held for midseason include "iZombie," "The 100," "The Originals,"

The CW will launch its 2017-18 season in October; premiere dates will be announced later.
