NBC is making a big push to re-ignite "Must-See TV" on Thursday nights — and it's doing it with a risky move of "This Is Us."

A break-out hit on Tuesday nights, the critical darling will be preceded by a revival of "Will & Grace" and "Great News" and followed by a true-crime drama about the murderous Menendez brothers.

"'This is Us' is a show that we thnk is peerless at moment in broadcast television, so we decided to move it to Thursday nights and not just throw it there and hope for the best, but strategically surround it with shows that we think are very strong. And our hope is to create the return of "Must-See TV' on Thursdays."

And, yes, NBC will begin advertising with that slogan again.

It is by no means a sure thing, however. NBC's new Thursday lineup will go up against six weeks of NFL football on CBS, and then it will be pre-empted by six weeks of NFL games when Thursday-night football moves to NBC.

"Will & Grace" will do a special Christmas episode and it's possible "This Is Us" will, too. But after a brief return in January, NBC's entire lineup will be pre-empted for the Winter Olympics.

And, of course, "Will & Grace" will go up against the wildly popular "Big Bang Theory" on CBS.

But NBC execs sound confident about moving "This Is Us."

"This show is extraordinary and has a rabidly engaged audience," Greenblatt said. "If there was one show we could move, it would be this one."

"This Is Us" has already been renewed for two seasons, so, — worst-case scenario — if it struggles on Thursdays it will almost certainly be moved to another night.

The good news for the network is that it is virtually guaranteed of being the No. 1 network during the 2017-18 season. Not only does it have the Winter Olympics, it also has the Super Bowl. And it is planning a post-Super Bowl episode of "This Is Us."

NBC is adding only two entirely new shows to its fall schedule, the dramas "The Brave" and "Law & Order: The Menendez Brothers." Although "Will & Grace" is returning 11 years after it aired its last original episode.

But the network schedule will look decidedly different this fall because seven returning series are moving to new timeslots.

• Exactly how much "Will & Grace" we get remains flexible. Originally announced as 10 half-hours, that's already been upped to 12. And Greenblatt is already talking to the cast about doing more.

"I said to them, if this works, we're going to want more of these," he said. "I think it's possible. If they love doing it again and it lands in a big way. It's my hope that we would have more than just these 12."

• Among the shows NBC canceled are "Aquarius," "The Blacklist: Redemption," "Celebrity Apprentice," "Emerald City," "Grimm" and "Powerless."

NBC has neither canceled nor renewed "Chicago Justice" and "Trial & Error"; it is in talks and those shows may or may not return.

• "Blindspot," "Chicago Med," "Timeless" and "The Wall" were all renewed by the network, but they are not on the fall schedule. They're return eventally — perhaps as late as next spring or next summer.

"Little Big Shots" and "Shades of Blue" will both return on Sundays in January.

• "The Voice" is adding two "American Idol" alumni to its judging panel — Jennifer Hudson in the fall and Kelly Clarkson in early 2018.
