Jim Brockmire (Hank Azaria) is a sportscaster who became a legend for the wrong reason. A decade ago, he had a profane meltdown on the air — in the midst of calling a baseball game — because he came home to discover his wife was cheating on him.

But as "Brockmire" (8 p.m., IFC) begins, Jim might be on the road to redemption. With an emphasis on the word "might." He's landed a job calling minor-league games in the minor-league town of Morristown, Penn. — hired by the team's owner, Jules (Amanda Peet).

It's a comedy. It's a satire about viral-video infamy. It's a profile of an egotistical jerk who is, somehow, lovable.

"Brockmire" gets off to a very funny (and very vulgar) start. I don't know how long the premise will hold up, but it begins with a lead-off hit and scores multiple runs.
