CBS is airing an episode of "The Great Indoors" tonight (8:30 p.m., Ch. 2) as an experiment of sorts.

The network has already renewed 18 of its current series for next season, and "Great Indoors" isn't one of them. Which doesn't mean the show is canceled, but it's not a good sign.

Particularly because the lame "Kevin Can Wait" and the lamer "Man with a Plan" have both been picked up for second seasons, as has the promising but not-quite-there-yet "Superior Donuts."

And "The Great Indoors" is waaaaay better than either "Kevin" or "Man."

Not that anyone expects "The Great Indoors" going to do better without the lead-in that it gets from mega-hit "The Big Bang Theory," which has been renewed for two more seasons, in its regular Thursday-night time slot.

But no one would be surprised if the "Big Bang" spinoff "Young Sheldon" — which has been ordered for next season — gets the post-"Big Bang" time slot, so "Great Indoors" would have to move somewhere if it's renewed.

Anyway, in tonight's episode, Jack's nemesis, a former magazine staffer who's now a TV personality, returns to guest edit the magazine. And Jack isn't happy about it.
