There's a big release for Amazon subscribers on Friday — the 10-episode second season of "The Man In the High Castle" starts streaming.

It's set in an alternate reality in which the United States lost World War II. The country has been partitioned — the Nazis rule the states east of the Rockies; the Japanese rule the states west of the Rockies; with a buffer zone (that includes Utah) between the two.

It's 1962, and the world — not just the United States — has been divided between the two former allies. Hitler is still alive, but there are machinations to remove him so that the cold war between the Germans and the Japanese can turn into a hot war — with the former USA caught in the middle.

There's also a fascinating story-within-a-story, because this reality seems to be parallel to our own. And there's some crossover between the two.

Watch a few episodes (Season 1 is streaming, too, of course) and you'll get sucked in.
