I can't tell you if "Hairspray Live!" (7 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5) will be any good — obviously — but I have high hopes.

It has a great cast backed by a talented production team. And they're taking a page out of the "Grease Live!" book, performing this on a Hollywood backlot.

"Hairspray Live!" won't be live in this time zone, of course. We'll see it on a one-hour tape delay.

And, as much as I'm a fan of this show, the 7-10 p.m. time slot seems excessive. Sitting through three hours, complete with an hour or so of commercials, is a daunting prospect.

Thank goodness for the invention of the DVR.
