The college football regular season comes to an end for the local teams this weekend … with games that mean less than we might have hoped.

• When they face Colorado in Boulder on Saturday (6 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13), the Utes can decide who goes to the Pac-12 championship game next week — but it won't be them.

If Utah wins, USC wins the South Division; if Utah loses, Colorado wins the division.

A win would, most likely, move Utah higher in the Pac-12 bowl pecking order; a loss might drop them down that list.

• Utah State travels to Provo to take on BYU on Saturday (8:15 p.m., ESPNU) with nothing but pride on the line. The Aggies (3-8) and aren't eligible for a bowl, so this will be their season finale.

BYU (7-4), on the other hand, already knows that — win or lose — it's headed for the Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

So this is all about the instate rivalry. The Cougars lead the series 46-36-3; the Aggies won on their last trip to Provo in 2014 — the first time they'd won on BYU's home field since 1978.

(Since 1978, BYU has won 27 of 31 meetings with USU.)
