This week, there's a crossover between "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13) and "New Girl" (7:30 p.m., Fox 13). But not a real big crossover.

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and the gang from "New Girl," which is set in Los Angeles, are visiting New York. Which is convenient, because — of course — "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is set in, yes, Brooklyn.

Jake (Andy Samberg) is back in New York, and as he's chasing a suspect, he commandeers a car Jess is driving. And it's kind of funny.

Then in "New Girl," how Jess ended up in that situation is finally told as a flashback.

It's OK. But it's not really that big a deal.

• Also tonight, it's Episode 3 of "This Is Us" — another great hour from a show that's as good as I hoped it would be.

Rebecca encounters Randall's biological father when she makes a surprise visit to her son's home — and it turns out it's not their first meeting. Kevin decides to move to New York to pursue a job on Broadway; and Toby plans a special day for Kate.

There are so many shows filled with unlikable characters. I like every single character in "This Is Us" — even the ones who aren't the best people.
