The new series "Frequency" (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30) is based on the 2000 movie of the same title.

The premise is basically the same, with a couple of changes for TV. First, the lead character is female instead of male. And, second, the TV characters are a decade (or more) younger than the movie characters.

Peyton List stars as NYPD detective Raimy Sullivan . She's the daughter of Frank Sullivan (Riley Smith), an undercover cop who — supposedly — turned dirty and got himself killed back in 1996.

But Raimy's view of her father changes when she starts talking with him, via ham radio, across a two-decade gap. She's in 2016; he's in 1996.

The movie wasn't that great. It was just sort of OK. The series seems to be in pretty much the same territory.

Except that it's hard to imagine how this premise will hold up over 13 episodes, let alone anything more than that.
