The premiere of "Star Trek; Discovery," which was supposed to happen in January, has been delayed until May 2017.

The two-hour pilot will still air on the CBS broadcast network; the rest of the 13-episode first season (and any succeeding seasons) will air on the paid-subscription, online only CBS All Access.

It will just happen start four months later. The change, according to CBS, is "driven by the belief of the creative team that this gives the show the appropriate time for delivery of the highest quality, premium edition of the first new 'Star Trek' TV series in over a decade."

And all of us Trekkers should be fine with that. Better we wait four months and get a better show.

Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller issued this statement: "Bringing 'Star Trek' back to television carries a responsibility and mission: to connect fans and newcomers alike to the series that has fed our imaginations since childhood. We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don't result in compromised quality. Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: 'Star Trek' deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of."

Again, all of us Trekkers should be fine with that.

There's also news about the spinoff of "The Good Wife" — that it, too, will premiere on the CBS broadcast network before moving to CBS All Access; and that the premiere will be in February 2017.

As previously announced, the still-untitled spinoff will not feature the good wife herself — Julianna Margulies will not appear as Alicia Florek. But Christine Baranski will reprise her role as tDiane Lockhart, and Cush Jumbo will return as Lucca Quinn "along with the introduction of new characters as the story evolves," according to CBS.
