The 2016 Summer Olympics officially begins with — you guessed it! — the Opening Ceremonies.

And you won't be able to watch the events at Maracana Stadium live. Not on TV. Not on the internet.

That's also not a big surprise.

The Opening Ceremonies are scheduled to air from 6:30-11 p.m. on NBC/Ch. 5. That's an hour after they air in the Eastern and Central Time Zones; it's two hours after they actually take place.

There will, no doubt, be all sort of complaining about this on social media from those who believe they have a God-given right to watch the Opening Ceremonies live. But in this case, there's really nothing to complain about. It's not like there's competition involved in the Opening Ceremonies — except, perhaps, to see which nation has the best outfits — so it's not like we'll be missing anything by waiting until 6:30 p.m., when more of us will be home from work to watch TV.

This is a big entertainment special. And most of the entertainment we watch on TV is not live.

Here's a dirty little secret for those of us who live in the Mountain Time Zone — nothing we see on NBC will be live. Everying on KSL will be tape-delayed.

There will be live coverage on the various cable channels and, of course, online. But not on NBC in this time zone.
