The latest addition to ABC's Shonda-land TGIT lineup looks really cool. If only "The Catch" (8 p.m., Ch. 4) was as good as it looks.

This is a show that has undergone considerable revamping — recasting and changes in writers and producers — and it still feels like it doesn't quite feel like uber-producer Shonda Rhimes ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," "How to Get Away With Murder") and her team have entirely figured it out.

Former BYU student Mireille Enos ("The Killing," "Big Love") stars as gorgeous, stylish, supposedly smart private investigator Alice Vaughn. In Thursday's premiere — which has been entirely spoiled by ABC's promos — Alice and her team are pursuing a con artist who turns out to be her fiance, Benjamin Jones (Peter Krause, "Parenthood" and "Six Feet Under").

Benjamin cons Alice, among others, making her immediately seem somewhat less than the smart investigator we're supposed to believe she is.

Anyway, this is all a set-up for a cat-and-mouse game between the two, which would seem to have limited potential for a continuing, week-after-week storyline. So there must be something else coming … but we don't know what.

A con-of-the-week, maybe?

The most interesting thing about the premiere of "The Catch" is the camera-work and the editing — including some very clever split screens. But the characters ought to be the most interesting thing, and they're not.
