After years of plummeting ratings, Fox announced last May that this season of "American Idol" (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13) would be the last.

Why the network didn't just cancel the show, I'm not sure. I would have been down for a special celebrating the previous 14 seasons. Although the 4:49 video clip accompanying this story seems like plenty.

But here we go again for Season 15. Ryan Seacrest is back as the host; Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban return as the judges.

And … not all that many people care.
