Season 31 of "Survivor" (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) has been a pretty good one so far.

Subtitled "Second Chance," the twist this season is that the contestants have all been on previous seasons — and none of them won.

There have been the usual twists and turns, some unexpected tribe shake-ups and a sooner-than-expected merge. What's most shocking is that contestants who have been on before make the same mistakes all over again.

Well, maybe not so shocking. For 15 years, we've been watching contestants make the same mistakes we saw previous contestants make on previous seasons.

In this week's episode, an intense water challenge leaves castaways thirsty for a much-needed reward; a shocking tribal council takes an unexpected turn.

And, by the way, "Survivor" remains a hit. I can't tell you how many times I've heard (or read) people saying, "Oh, is that still on? Why?" And there's a simple answer.

"Survivor" wins its time slot, consistently beating the competition not only in households and total viewers but in the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics so important to advertisers.
