"Limitless" (Tuesday, 9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) is about a guy who takes a pill and becomes the smartest, strongest, fastest guy on Earth.

It's also the latest in a long line of CBS procedural crime dramas. Really.

Jake McDorman ("Greek") stars as Bradley Finch, a 30ish slacker whose life isn't amounting to much. Then a friend gives him a pill — something called NZT — and he's suddenly Superman. About the only thing he can't do is fly.

(Actually, we don't really get a good explanation of what powers the pill gives him. It sort of seems like whatever powers are needed for whatever scene the writers create for him.)

The fact that Bradley is excited about what's going on — that he doesn't get all angst-y — is something "Limitless" has going in its favor.

Before long, however, Bradley is caught up in a murder case. And he's trying to convince FBI agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter, "Dexter") that he's a good guy, not a bad guy.

It's not really much of a spoiler to tell you that Bradley doesn't go to prison at the end of the first episode. (Otherwise, no series.) And that he's teaming up with

Oh, and Bradley Cooper — who's also an executive producer of "Limitless" — shows up in character as the guy he played in the "Limitless" movie. And, while he seems to promise he'll be back, don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

It's hard to judge where "Limitless" is going based on the premiere, which takes the hour setting up the premise. But CBS has had so much success with procedural crime dramas, don't discount the possibility that this one could turn into the latest in a long line of hits.
