Sierra made it to the final five on "Survivor," but she could make it no further. The rodeo barrel rider from Roy was the first contestant eliminated in Wednesday's season finale of the long-running CBS reality/competition show.

Thomas was out in the first half of the two-hour episode. After she failed once again to win individual immunity, it came down to a contest between Sierra and Rodney Lavoie Jr. — with immunity-winner Mike Holloway holding the deciding vote.

Sierra scrambled, trying to align with Mike and Carolyn Rivera against Rodney. Rodney, meanwhile, worked to align with Mike and Will Sims II against Sierra.

And the Utahn may well have misplayed her last chance. At the tribal council, she argued that she deserved to remain in the game because she was the strongest of Mike's remaining competitors, often finishing second to him in challenges.

Even host Jeff Probst was surprised at her argument.

"Now, is that a case to keep you or get rid of you?" Probst said — pointing out that the object of "Survivor" is to eliminate your strongest competition.

"I'm proving that I want to be here," Sierra said.

Wanting to be there wasn't enough. Sierra was voted out.

"I've never been surrounded by people who will lie as much as these people do," she said with a smile upon exiting the game. "But if they're playing the game as me being a threat, I guess it's kind of a compliment.

"And that's how it went tonight. I gave it my best, and it wasn't enough."

When Mike won the second immunity challenge of the night and guaranteed himself a spot in the final three, the second hour of the "Survivor" was almost anticlimactic. There was suspense when the vote at the second tribal council of the episode ended in a 2-2 tie. Carolyn and Rodney had to compete in a fire-building challenge — and both of them were terrible at it.

Carolyn eventually prevailed. But it seemed a foregone conclusion that Mike would win … although it seemed perhaps a bit more difficult that it turned out to be.

Sierra joined the eight-person jury, made up of eliminated contestants. And when it came down to voting for who should win, her ballot went to Carolyn.

The Utahn lost on that one, too. Mike ran away with the final vote — six for Mike; one for Carolyn; one for Will.

"Survivor" returns for its 31st season in the fall.
