A&E's new series "The Returned" (11 p.m.) is about a small town that is turned upside down when people start returning from the dead.

It is not based on the ABC series "Resurrection." It is adapted from the French series "The Returned" ("Les Revenants") which aired — with subtitles — in this country on SundanceTV.

This new version of "The Returned" is good — judging by the pilot. Maybe not as good as the original, but better than what "Resurrection" quickly deteriorated into.

But it sort of amusing that A&E's tagline for its programming is "Be Original" — and it's doing a remake.
