I will readily admit that I thought "Better Call Saul" (Sunday, 11 p.m., AMC) was a terrible idea. Prequels are generally a bad idea. Taking a quirky minor character — in this case, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) — from a successful show — in this case, "Breaking Bad" — is generally a bad idea.

And "Breaking Bad" was such a great show that it's hard to live up to.

After watching the first couple of episodes of "Better Call Saul," however, I've changed my mind. I like it. I like it a lot. It's definitely "Breaking Bad"-esque, but it stands on its own. And it gets off to a very strong start.

After Sunday's premiere, Episode 2 airs Monday at 11 p.m. on AMC in the show's regular time slot.
