A story of cultural identity and forced assimilation is the focus of today's "Trailer of the Day" for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

The Swedish drama "Sami Blood" centers on Ella Marja (Lene Cecilia Sparrok), a 14-year-old Sámi girl, one of the indigenous people in the far north of Scandinavia, in the 1930s. She is sent to a European-style boarding school, exposed to race biology examinations and other forms of racism, subtle and otherwise.

In this atmosphere, Elle Marja begins to dream of another life — one that would force her to abandon her culture and family to become somebody else.

"Sami Blood," which played at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, will screen in the Spotlight section of the Sundance Film Festival. The movie screens at the following times and venues:

• Friday, Jan. 20, 6 p.m., Salt Lake City Library Theatre.

• Tuesday, Jan. 24, 8:30 p.m., Prospector Square Theatre, Park City.

• Saturday, Jan. 28, 9 p.m., Sundance Mountain Resort Screening Room.

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 19-29 in Park City and at venues in Salt Lake City and the Sundance resort in Provo Canyon.
