Slices of life in a changing L.A. neighborhood — told in a new form of storytelling — fill today's "Trailer of the Day" for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

The web series "Gente-fied" takes place in L.A.'s Boyle Heights neighborhood, with each episode focusing on a different character dealing with the changes happening there. They include young Latinxs creating spaces to celebrate their bi-cultural identitles, and older business owners trying to keep moving through rent hikes, a housing crisis and an influx of outsiders looking to gentrify the neighborhood.

The series is directed by Marvin Lemus, who co-wrote with Linda Yvette Chavez. The most familiar face in the trailer, America Ferrara ("Superstore," "Ugly Betty"), is one of the show's executive producers.

The festival will screen three episodes of "Gente-fied," along with samples of two other web series ("The Chances" and "Strangers"), in its Short Form Episodic Showcase — one of the titles in Sundance's Special Events section. The showcase includes a Q&A with creators and directors of each series.

The showcase will screen at the following times and venues:

• Monday, Jan. 23, 11 a.m., Egyptian Theatre, Park City.

• Wednesday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m., Tower Theatre, Salt Lake City.

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 19-29 in Park City and at venues in Salt Lake City and the Sundance resort in Provo Canyon.
