[Video: This parallel had occurred to the folks at my house. Come to find out other people had thought of it, too.]

Fans of this space may already know how inordinately fond I am of that line from Adlai Stevenson, Democratic presidential candidate in 1952 and 1956. (He lost to Ike both times. Kind of like the Jazz to the Bulls back when. Or, maybe, the Cavs to the Warriors.) The one where he was told by an admirer, "Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person!" and Stevenson called back "That's not enough, madam, we need a majority!"

Well, here's three:

The punk who would be president — Garrison Keillor | The Washington Post | The Salt Lake Tribune

" ... The class hood, the bully and braggart, the guy revving his pink Chevy to make the pipes rumble, presiding over the student council. This is the C-minus guy who sat behind you in history and poked you with his pencil and smirked when you asked him to stop. That smirk is now on every front page in America. It is not what anybody — left, right, or center — looks for in a president. There's no philosophy here, just an attitude. ..."

"Documentary historian Ken Burns delivered an urgent message to Stanford's Class of 2016 on Sunday: Forget the banal life advice that commencement speakers usually give. Defeating Donald Trump — who he called "an insult to our history" — is the most important thing you can do right now. ..."

Donald Trump Picked the Wrong News Editor to F*ck With — Charles P. Pierce | Esquire

"Trump is going to war with The Washington Post, but he doesn't stand a chance against Marty Baron. ...

"... If Trump wants additional clarification, I suggest he contact Bernard Cardinal Law at the Basilica of Our Lady Of The Clean Getaway in Rome. Or, if that's too much trouble, he can find out what can come of getting in Marty Baron's sights on-demand in whatever hotel room he's in tomorrow."

Make that four:

"An angry President Obama on Tuesday lashed out at Republicans, and particularly Donald Trump, who have called him soft on terrorism, warning that 'loose talk' about Muslims has harmed the United States's campaign against militant groups in the Middle East and elsewhere. ...

" ... 'That's the key, they tell us. We can't get ISIL unless we call them "radical Islamists,"' Obama said, referring to the Islamic State militant group after meeting with his National Security Council at the Treasury Department to discuss the administration's counterterrorism strategy. 'What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make ISIL less committed to trying to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this? The answer is, none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is a political distraction.'..."
