Add midfielder Omar Holness to the list of Real Salt Lake players who have undergone season-ending surgery this year.

He had the operation Tuesday after rupturing his ACL three weeks ago, the team revealed Wednesday. Holness will be out for the remainder of the season with an expected 8- to 12-month recovery time.

The 23-year-old Jamacian national team player has been on the RSL injury list since June 29 with an "unspecified knee injury."

He left training the day before after landing awkwardly on a challenge, limping off the field of his own accord.

RSL drafted the former North Carolina Tar Heel fifth overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.

His rookie season in MLS started late after he suffered a seizure in his professional debut in March with the Real Monarchs. Holness started in his first MLS appearance on June 25, a 2-0 loss at Dallas.

He had three starts in nine appearances in 2016.

During preseason this year, Holness said he hoped to beat the number of appearances he had last season.

It wasn't to be. Holness logged the exact same number of starts and appearances this year before his ACL rupture ended his season. He scored his first MLS goal in RSL's 6-2 loss at Dallas on June 3.
