Portland, Ore. • Real Salt Lake's center back depth, already thinned through various injuries late in the year, is about to be tested further Saturday night.

Veteran center back Jámison Olave was suspended and handed an undisclosed fine by the MLS Disciplinary Committee Friday for making contact with the head of L.A. Galaxy defender Daniel Steres in the 27th minute of Wednesday's 3-3 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Olave hit Steres in the head with his right hand on a free kick played into the Galaxy box by RSL midfielder Javier Morales. The disciplinary committee deemed the hit "violent conduct."

Olave has started 13 regular-season matches for RSL in 2016, but will miss RSL's road match Saturday night against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The 35-year-old center back has scored two goals for RSL this season. Saturday night will be Olave's second suspension of the year. He was shown a red card in RSL's 2-2 draw at Portland on March 19.

RSL will be without Olave and starter Aaron Maund (toe fracture), who remains sidelined indefinitely. Justen Glad, RSL's 19-year-old starter, is expected to return to the lineup Saturday against the Timbers. Glad missed Wednesday's match due to a hamstring tweak.

"It's better to miss one [game], than miss four," Glad said after training Thursday. "It's all about being smart. But I feel good. Ready to play."

Should Glad return, RSL coach Jeff Cassar will have to choose from veteran defender Chris Wingert and second-year homegrown player Phanuel Kavita. Wingert, predominately an outside back, played at center back in Wednesday's draw for the first time with RSL since 2012.
