Sandy • Three Real Salt Lake regulars missed the final training session prior to the return leg of RSL's CONCACAF Champions League series against Tigres UANL Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Midfielder Javier Morales, forward Burrito Martinez and defender Demar Phillips didn't participate due to an illness that has hit the team's locker room, according to RSL coach Jeff Cassar. All three players started in the first leg against Tigres on Feb. 24 in the 2-0 loss in Monterrey, Mexico, but are "probable" for the second leg, per Cassar.

"Obviously we'll see how the night goes and things like that, but they're competitors and we'll see how they feel tomorrow," Cassar said.

The "bug" — as Cassar called it — popped up within the last 24 hours as all three starters trained fully Monday afternoon at America First Field in Sandy. RSL only recently returned back to Utah last Thursday following over a month of travel for preseason and eventually to Mexico for the first Champions League match against Tigres.

"The guys' immune systems is down a little bit, and if something kind of catches it spreads like wildfire," he said. "So now we're taking precautions, making sure everybody's washing their hands and not high-fiving, but maybe just a chest-bump."

RSL captain Kyle Beckerman said after training Tuesday he isn't worried about Morales, Martinez or Phillips missing a match of such magnitude at home in Sandy.

"I think it'll be fine," Beckerman said. "Those guys will get through it. Chicken noodle soup usually works. They'll be fine."

The potential that any of the three won't be at 100 percent is untimely for RSL, to say the least.

Needing at least a 2-0 win in regulation to force extra time, the RSL attack needs both Morales and Martinez to be operating at a high level. Phillips drew the assignment of marking speedy Tigres winger Jürgen Damm, who scored the second goal to give Wednesday's visitors a 2-0 cushion.

» Leg 2 sold out

RSL announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter that Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal leg against Tigres is officially sold out. Expect full numbers on tickets sold early Wednesday. Kick from center circle in Sandy: 8:06 p.m.
