Real Salt Lake's first roster addition of the offseason is one that's in-house — sort of.

RSL announced Tuesday it signed 18-year-old RSL Academy product Danilo Acosta as the club's 10th Homegrown player. A center back with the RSL Academy, the Honduran-born Acosta is also viewed as a potential defensive midfielder at the professional level. Per a release, he's expected to join RSL for the start of training camp on Friday, Jan. 22.

"When I came to the Academy, my dream was to play with Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium," said Acosta in a club release. "I've been working hard and the coaches have been pushing me a lot these last three years and now my dream has come true."

Acosta, who became part of the RSL Academy in 2013, was a key cog in RSL's U-18 team that went 37-4-4 in 2014-15, one that outscored opponents 176-38. He made three appearances for RSL's USL affiliate, Real Monarchs, in 2015 after making an initial appearance for the RSL reserves a year before in 2014.

"He's another versatile player that can play a little bit at center back and a little bit at defensive mid," said RSL coach Jeff Cassar in the release. "I think it's a wonderful opportunity for him to get himself as close to Kyle Beckerman as possible, watch and learn what he's doing before practice, during practice and after practice.

"That will give him some time to learn, adjust to the MLS game and hopefully contribute to the first team in the near future."

Acosta joins fellow RSL Academy alums Jordan Allen, Justen Glad, Sebastian Saucedo, Fito Ovalle and Lalo Fernandez on the first-team roster. The Acosta signing comes after RSL re-signed longtime staples Javier Morales and Jamison Olave in November.
