Dell Loy Hansen has broken his silence once again in — surprise, surprise — controversial fashion. The Real Salt Lake owner commented on a Facebook post by RSL's SB Nation blog RSL Soapbox Thursday morning voicing his displeasure with former general manager Garth Lagerwey regarding the deal of longtime RSL center back Nat Borchers to the Portland Timbers.

The SB Nation post, headlined, "Why the Borchers trade buried RSL's 2015 hopes," touched on why RSL dealt Borchers before the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft and protected Carlos Salcedo (who'd already voiced his sour turn on the club demanding a move publicly on Twitter) before his move to Chivas de Guadalajara.

Two moves that set up the eventual return of Jamison Olave.

The comment on the link is from a profile confirmed to the Tribune as Hansen's own:

"For the record I opposed to trade of Nat Borchers. That particular trade that Garth insisted on with the undoing of our relationship."

So there you go.

The mercurial RSL owner took to Facebook to say that the Borchers deal — in retrospect has looked worse and worse for the club all season — was pushed for by Lagerwey before his exit from the club last December. And according to Hansen, it was the straw that broke the camel's back between the two.

Lagerwey wasn't available for immediate comment Thursday.

RSL's GM for eight years, Lagerwey entered last season knowing his contract would expire at the end of the year. Talks between he and Hansen were tabled until the end of the season, but he told the Tribune in January it took him the better part of a year to understand it was time to move on from the club. He was named Seattle's general manager and president of soccer on Jan. 6.

"I figured out I had to do it," he said. "I had to leave and I didn't have a choice. That's what it came down to."

Cryptic, sure. But Lagerwey's departure was the second of three major exits under Hansen's watch. First was head coach Jason Kreis after the MLS Cup final loss in Dec. 2013. Then Lagerwey a year ago and most recently former RSL president Bill Manning, who left this summer after his contract expired.

Manning was named president of Toronto FC on Monday. Hansen is currently serving as RSL's interim club president. He was fined $150,000 by MLS Commissioner Don Garber in February after publicly addressing the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and the MLS Players Union.

Long considered the model of consistency in MLS, change at RSL has been swift the last two years. And with Hansen at the helm, it's guaranteed to be more interesting and unpredictable.
